CRISISline - Mental Health America of Greenville County

CRISISline is a 24-hour, 7-day a week confidential hotline offering a nonjudgmental sounding board for people to talk about life's struggles. Trained phone workers are available to offer a listening ear and to provide community resources and crisis intervention. CRISISline answers more than 11,000 calls annually from people struggling with the choices of life. Certified by the American Association of Suicidology, the line staffs workers trained in active listening, brainstorming and crisis intervention/suicide prevention. MHAGC is also part of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (800) 273-TALK(8255).

Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death. AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a leader in suicide prevention and mental health crisis care. Since its inception, the Lifeline has engaged in a variety of initiatives to improve crisis services and advance suicide prevention for all, including innovative public messaging, best practices in mental health, and groundbreaking partnerships.

Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Around the world, on average we lose a man to suicide every minute of every day. Six out of 10 suicides are men. Too many are toughing it out and struggling alone. We’re working toward a world where men and boys take action to be mentally healthy and well, and are supported by their friends, family and community during tough times. We’re working to immediately stop the increase in male suicide rates. The Movember Foundation is the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale, year round.
